Selling Your Home? Curb Appeal Doesn’t Have to Break the Bank

July 22, 2015

Often times when homeowners are getting ready to sell their home, updates acurb appealnd improvements start adding up quickly. Sure, you need to replace that leaky faucet in the kitchen and repair the small leak on the roof but what about curb appeal? This is one thing that is often overlooked when homeowners are getting their home ready to sell. The good news is that there are many things you can do to give your home a facelift without breaking the bank.

Give your front door a fresh coat of paint. The front door is the main entrance of many homes. It can be a beautiful focal point that grabs the attention of potential buyers. Choose a bright and cheerful color and you are sure to make a good first impression. A gallon of paint will cost somewhere around $25 so this is definitely an inexpensive project.

Clean up the yard. Updating curb appeal doesn’t mean you have to go out and buy all kinds of plants and shrubs to plant around your home. Not everyone has a green thumb but simply trimming existing shrubs and getting rid of weeds can make a big difference in the overall appearance of your home. Consider adding a few colorful potted plants by the front door for a little more personality.

Implement a few fresh details. Has your mailbox seen better days? How about your house numbers? Switching out your rusted mailbox and house numbers with new, updated versions will make a bigger difference than you might think.

Have your house pressure washed. This is something that is fairly inexpensive but necessary. Over time, mildew and dirt will build up on the exterior of your home and the only way to get rid of it is with a good cleaning.

Boosting the curb appeal of your home is something that can be a huge selling point. Talk with your realtor about other things that are important when getting your home ready to go on the market.
